The 13th Annual Jerry Lee Symposium on Evidence-Based Crime Policy was held on April 29 and 30, 2013, in Washington, D.C. This year’s symposium was entitled “Police Education in What Works: From the US to the UK,” and was the first public dialogue between US and UK police leaders responsible for setting standards for police education, selection, training and promotion.
The speakers and discussants included the founding Chief Executive of the putative Royal College of Policing, the first professional body ever to embrace all dimensions of policing, from constables to commissioners, detectives to dispatchers, marksmen to managers. The discussion also featured many of the most influential people in America on issues of police training, as well as the police officer who founded the Society for Evidence-Based Policing.
