Dr. Laura Dugan was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for Community Mediation Maryland (CMM). The board plays an important role in determining how CMM carries out its mission which is for every Maryland citizen to have awareness of and access to an affordable, high quality community mediation service.
CMM advances community mediation in Maryland through educating the public, training, networking, research and creating new centers. Among the many things they do is run a re-entry mediation program, which provides opportunities for Maryland inmates to meet with family members and others for mediation before being released back into the community. It has been shown to decrease the likelihood of arrest in an evaluation by Choice Research Associates—a company owned by UMD-CCJS alumni Shawn Flower.
