Dr. Alexander is currently the P.R.O.T.E.C.T. Coordinator for Washington County, Maryland for the Governor's Officer of Crime Prevention and Policy. His responsibilities are to help address violent crime, maximize the use of State, local, and community resources to combat neighborhood decline throughout the county to support comprehensive strategies to reduce crime and fear in the community, and ensure law enforcement is utilized in in direct public safety roles.

Prior to working for the Governor's Office, Dr. Alexander worked for the Hagerstown Maryland Police Department. He recently retired after 48 years 11 months and 11 days (but who is counting).  During his career with the police department, he was assigned to patrol, a supervisor in records and communications, a member of the special response team, planning and research, internal affairs, and the research and grants administrator over my career. Dr. Alexander retired as the Captain of Special Services which included overseeing Professional Standards (Internal Affairs), Training, and all civilian members of the department. Prior to that, he was the Captain of Operations before some restructuring within the department. 

His research interests are Homicide clearances, racial disparity within the criminal justice system, and evidence-based policing practices.

His outside interests include Tae Kwon Do, where he holds a 1st degree black belt, stick fighting, and road cycling; especially the Tour de France.  Academically, I have an Associates degree in the Administration of Justice from then Hagerstown Junior College (now Hagerstown Community College),  Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Baltimore, a Masters degree in Psychology from Hood College, a Masters degree from Shippensburg University in the Administration of Justice and a PhD from the University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Alexander is a Terp 4 Life!
