Captain Michael Weller has distinguished himself through his service in the United States Marine Corps, earning an honorable discharge. Transitioning to a law enforcement career spanning over 37 years, he has held various leadership roles at local, regional, and national levels. His responsibilities have included operations, administration, intelligence, investigations, communications, training, liaison, community engagement, leadership, and logistics, among others. Captain Weller is known for exceeding organizational goals through innovation, commitment, and strong relationship-building.
While working, Captain Weller pursued his education, earning an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Public Safety Administration, and a graduate degree in Criminal Justice Management. These qualifications have enabled him to enhance the programs he developed, ensuring they meet necessary mandates and best practices. He is also a graduate of the 281st session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy. Captain Weller has also been inspired by his students to author an academic textbook titled "Making a Police Officer in the 21st. Century" (published by Kendall Hunt).
Throughout his public service career, Captain Weller has developed strategies to incorporate best practices within the industry. Additionally, he has over 26 years of experience as an instructor in law enforcement and corporate business world, creating templates for various topics such as Active Threat Responses, Crisis Management, and Leadership. Captain Weller also teaches a Criminal Justice course at the University of Maryland, College Park campus.
