On April 26, 2019, the University of Maryland Alumni Association inducted Florent “Flo” Groberg into the Alumni Hall of Fame. As a U.S. Army captain, he earned the Medal of Honor, the United States' highest military decoration, for extraordinary bravery during combat operations in Afghanistan in 2012. When multiple suicide bombers attacked a troop formation he was guarding, Groberg tackled one of them, minimizing the loss of life when the bombs exploded, but leaving Groberg with disabling wounds.
After his medical retirement from the Army, he worked as an operations officer at the Pentagon, and today, as chief of staff for Boeing Commercial Airplanes as well as an in-demand motivational speaker, Groberg remains dedicated to supporting veterans throughout the United States.
