The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland, College Park is pleased to announce that Professor Robert “Bobby” Brame has been appointed as department chair for 2022-2027.
He’s no stranger to the department—Dr. Brame received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 1997 and then served as an assistant professor here from 1997 to 2001. He also held a post-doctoral fellowship through Carnegie Mellon University from 1997-1998.

Dr. Brame is a highly regarded teacher and researcher, publishing widely cited articles that provide key insights into measurement and data analysis, recidivism, criminal records, criminal trajectories and race disparities in capital cases. He serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Quantitative Criminology and has received multiple grants from NIJ for criminological research.
The department was incredibly excited to have Dr. Brame rejoin the Criminology and Criminal Justice faculty as a full professor in fall 2020 and now looks forward to Dr. Brame’s tenure as department chair.
Congratulations, Bobby!
