The Summer 2022 CCJS/MLAW Study Abroad Program in Thailand is currently underway!

The program entitled “Human Trafficking in Context” will start Thursday, May 26, and includes three-credit courses of either CCJS458A or MLAW358A. Two UMD faculty members, Christine White and Wendy Stickle, and 16 students (13 College Park, 2 UMD@USG, and 1 GW) will be participating in cultural excursions, volunteering at the Development and Education Programme for Daughters and Communities Centre, a child protection organization, and attending speaking engagements with knowledgeable experts on the state of human trafficking in Thailand.

Human trafficking, while not widely understood, ranks among the most severe and lucrative of criminal enterprises around the world. This trip will focus on promoting an understanding of human trafficking in an international context, specifically in Thailand. Students participating will gain an appreciation of the types of human trafficking occurring in Thailand and the consequences of it, and reactions to it.

They will have an online blog documenting their experiences and reflections on the trip. Topics include the unexpected joys of teaching, the beauty of the country, and insights into Thai culture.
