Omi completed her PhD in the department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland in January, 2015. She holds a BA (honors) in Criminology and Psychology and an MA in Criminology from Simon Fraser University. Her research interests include community violence, terrorism and tactics, and theoretical applications.

- Research interests include the analysis of the relationship between external instigating factors (threat to constituent support, community cohesion, environment) and the escalation in violent tactics in impacted communities.
