Samuel Potts is a master’s student in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Colorado State University, graduating magna cum laude in 2025. Before attending the University of Maryland, Samuel served as a Deputy Probation Officer Intern with the Weld County 19th Judicial District Probation Department, where he worked with a supervised low-risk caseload, supported case documentation, observed court proceedings, and gained experience with client communication, compliance monitoring, and community-based supervision. He also studied comparative criminology abroad at the University of New York in Prague, where he examined international crime trends, criminal justice systems, and cross-national approaches to crime and policy. His research interests include corrections, probation and community supervision, drug policy, harm reduction, criminal justice reform, and the social conditions that shape justice involvement.
