The University of Maryland offers one of its most popular majors, Criminology and Criminal Justice (CCJS), at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). On the way to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree, students focus on individual, group and mass behavior, as well as the institutions, professions and law that exist to address causes of and responses to crime. As a discipline, criminology and criminal justice is situated at the nexus of other social science disciplines such as sociology, psychology and government, in addition to public law policy and legal study. Course work is accompanied by opportunities for internship, independent study, professional networking, as well as by the activities sponsored by CRIMSA, the Criminology and Criminal Justice Student Association.
