Lauren Porter earned a Ph.D. in sociology from University at Albany-SUNY in 2012 where she specialized in criminology and demography. Much of her research centers on punishment, with particular interest in the health and wellbeing of currently and/or formerly incarcerated individuals. She is also interested in topics related to the criminology of place, such as how aspects of the social and physical environment affect target selection and crime reporting.
